(818) 245-6310A cervical facet joint block is a treatment recommended in cases where neck or head pain is suspected to be the result of arthritis of the facet joints (the small joints) of a patient’s spinal column. The procedure involves the patient lying on their stomach and following a sterilising cleanse of the area and the administration of an anaesthetic, a very small needle is inserted through the skin of the neck and a mixture of a local anaesthetic and an anti-inflammatory agent (a corticosteroid) is injected to numb the nerve of the facet joint and reduce any inflammation which might exist within the joint. The procedure is used to determine whether or not the facet joint is the source of the pain.
