(818) 245-6310Muscle pain, also known as myalgia, is principally caused by overexertion of a muscle, though viral infections (think of the ‘flu’, or COVID-19) and diseases such as fibromyalgia, may also result in systemic muscular pain. The treatment plan may involve non-medicinal directions, such as rest, the application of a cold compress and compression wrapping. Alternatively, a medical professional may prescribe anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, or corticosteroids. You might also be prescribed a muscle relaxant, which can do wonders to ease pain, or advised to take advantage of relaxing therapies, such as massage. Surgery is generally not required unless there is an underlying medical reason, such as an abscess requiring drainage.
